Spared for a Purpose
Precious one, there was a man named Amram and a woman named Jochebed from the tribe of Levi who got married. (Exodus 2:1-2) The woman became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She saw that he was a special baby and kept him hidden for three months. But when she could no longer hide him, she got a basket made of papyrus reeds and waterproofed it with tar and pitch. She put the baby in the basket and laid it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile River. The baby’s sister Miriam stood at a distance, watching to see what would happen to him. (Exodus 2:1-4)
Soon Pharaoh’s daughter came out to bathe in the river, and her attendants walked along the riverbank. This was very unusual for the princess to go out and bathe in muddy water. It was orchestrated by God! That’s divine! It may seem hard to believe but there was a time when King Pharaoh ordered midwives when a baby boy was born to throw them in the Nile River. However, the midwives had a holy fear of God and refused to obey Pharaoh’s command. Then Pharaoh ordered the mothers when they gave birth to a son to throw him in the Nile River.
When the princess saw the basket among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it for her. When the princess opened it, she saw the baby. The little boy was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This must be one of the Hebrew children,” she said. Then the baby’s sister approached the princess. “Should I go and find one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?” she asked. “Yes, do!” the princess replied. (Exodus 2:5-8) So, the girl ran and called the baby’s mother (Jochebed). “Take this baby and nurse him for me,” the princess told the baby’s mother. “I will pay you for your help.” So, the Jochebed took her baby home and nursed him.
Later, when the boy was older, his mother brought him back to Pharaoh’s daughter, who adopted him as her own son. The princess named him Moses, for she explained, “I lifted him out of the water.” (Exodus 2:9-10) Moses means ‘drawn out.’ God saved Moses’ life because of the plan He had for him! Think about this for a moment, has there ever been a time God saved your life for a purpose? Perhaps you don’t know why, but you know He saved your life for a purpose. I can think of four times in my life, God had the perfect opportunity to take me, but I am still here – for a purpose! What about you?
Moses was beautiful in God’s eyes. Pharaoh’s daughter adopted, raised, and taught him the wisdom of the Egyptians and he became wise in both words and actions. (Acts 7:20-23) Take the time to educate yourself. Perhaps you have desired to learn a different language, do it or go back to college or Bible School and get your degree. Do it! You have no idea why you have a strong to do it, but you want to! God wants you to prepare for your future. When destiny knocks on your door – you want to be prepared to walk through it!
