The Tongue, a Little Thing
A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. (Luke 6:45 NIV)
My child, a gentle tongue speaking words that build up and encourage is a tree of life, but a pervasive tongue speaking words that overwhelm and depress crushes the spirit. (Proverbs 18:14) Your kind words are like medicine, but cruel words crush a person’s spirit. (Proverbs 15:13) There is an old adage that says: ‘sticks and stones may break my bones will never harm me’ – Words won’t hurt you they will kill you! Your tongue may be small but it’s capable of causing great damage. Though your tongue has no bones yet it’s strong enough to break someone’s heart – they have the power to consume and destroy a life! (Proverbs 15:1-4) A human being can endure and overcome sickness but what can you do when your spirit is crushed?
Be conscious of the words for the projects your thoughts and intentions of your heart – out of the abundance of your heart the mouth speaks! (Matthew 12:23) Your mouth has a significant connection to your heart – whether your heart is hard from sin or refashioned by grace. James is very specific about the power source for such destruction. The tongue that sets on fire is set on fire itself by hell. (James 3:6) Your speech is a barometer of your Spiritual maturity and it reveals what is in your heart. (Ephesians 4:29) Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each and every person. (Colossians 4:6) Anyone who can control their tongue is a totally mature person and is able to keep his entire body in check. (Luke 6:45) My beloved child, watch your tongue and keep your mouth shut, then you will stay out of trouble.Guard your tongue for My eyes are in every place watching evil and good. Speak words of Life over yourself and others and watch the fruit multiply!
