The Power of a Praying Grandparent
Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. (Psalms 145:4)
Beloved one, if you are a grandparent, I want you to know the difference you make in the next generation two to three generations. Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. (Psalms 145:4) My grandparents were my pastors growing up. My grandmother was a preaching machine, a prayer warrior and she had a fiery spirit spiritually. Amazing! All their grandchildren have a story where they impacted each of our lives. I know I am doing what I do today because of the impartation I received from my grandmother growing up. My grandmother led me to Christ when I was nine years old on a Sunday morning in the little country church, they pastored with sawdust floors.
In 1991, the last day my grandparents spent in their home, I sat at their feet on the floor as they laid hands on me and prayed a very simple prayer. They passed their mantle of anointing to me that day. Quite frankly, I didn’t feel a thing! These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.(Deuteronomy 6:6-7) Ten years later I was overwhelmed by the anointing. In 2001 while selling real estate the anointing was increasing ALOT and in December 2001 I launched Empowering International Ministries. I had a divine encounter with God way back then that shifted my walk. In 2004 everything changed, and I began full-time ministry. I would never in a lifetime believe that God would pick me out of my entire family to do what I do. I was the least likely candidate to be used by God. Isn’t that like our God? He picks the least likely ones with the most messed up life and picks them up, turns them around, equips them, and uses them for His glory and honor.
I was clueless about what that would look like, but today I am driven by a passion to impact the poor, lost, hurting, and broken, lead them to Christ and walk them through their healing process. What qualifies me to do that? First God qualifies you and me. I have been a broken mess, but God healed and restored me saving my soul. I don’t look like where I’ve been. When God gets through picking you up, cleaning you off, and turning your life around, you won’t look like where you have been. My prayer is daily that I look a lot more like Jesus! The disciples began to look just like Jesus when they hung out with Him all the time. When the city council members saw the boldness of Peter and John, they recognized they were unschooled, ordinary men, but marveled because it was apparent, they had been with Jesus! (Acts 4:13-14) Isn’t that our goal? These pictures are part of six generations if you count my grandparents, parents, me, my daughter, my grandchildren, and great-grandchildren being impacted by the Holy Spirit.
Why am I sharing this? The picture of my granddaughter Lauren and I standing on the foundation is the foundation where my grandparent’s church once stood. On January 24, 2015, my precious daughter Karen wanted to give me a tour of my life for my birthday, and Lauren my granddaughter went. We went to where the church once stood. It was an impromptu moment, but I was showing Lauren right where the pulpit once was, and I felt this overwhelming sense I was to pray for Lauren and impart the anointing that was once imparted to me by my grandparents. My daughter captured the picture unexpectedly. Lauren Elise Moore will do greater things than I ever thought about doing. I also know Joshua Caleb Moore will too and so will my great-grandchild Jackson James Moore. Oh! By the way, don’t think for a moment the anointing passed my daughter Karen by. Not on your life. God has great things for each one of my family members. How do I know? There has been an impartation and godly example set before them. They may not realize it until I am gone but I declare they will impact their next three generations! Begin today speaking prophetic destiny and blessing over each one of your family members!
So, if you are a grandparent, you have the authority to take dominion over the enemy and break generational curses, pray and be an example of godliness set before them. You don’t have to say a word, just walk in the love of Christ, pray, and this is the legacy you leave behind! God has been speaking to me about the importance of praying for my family every day because my prayers will continue after I am gone and will impact the next three generations. So, will your prayers impact the next 3 generations? Pray! Walk-in love! Be a godly example. Then watch God transform their lives. It is the goodness of God that draws our family members to repentance. (Romans 2:4)
