Serving

My beloved child, the Lord requires of you to be a gracious, kind person – merciful and walk humbly. (Micah 6:8) Your highest calling on this earth is servanthood. Paul introduces himself as a bondservant of Jesus Christ called to be an Apostle. (Romans 1:1) Paul and Timothy introduced themselves as servants of Christ Jesus in (Philippians 1:1). James, too introduced as a servant of God and the Lord Jesus Christ in (James 1:1) Simon Peter a bondservant and Apostle of Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:1) What did Jesus say to His disciples? He told them that whoever wants to be a leader must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and give His life a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:26-28) Jesus emptied Himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. (Philippians 2:7) The greatest among us are those who serve. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. (Matthew 23:11-12, Luke 22:26) The absolute highest position you can have in the Kingdom of God is being a servant – serving others.
The problem today is many are obsessed with having a position or a title, telling everyone what their calling is. Jesus didn’t have a title. He was comfortable in His own identity, knowing who He was and is in Christ Jesus. Do you? Jesus didn’t call Himself Dr. Jesus though He could have because He is our healer. He was a deliverer; he cast out devil’s, raised the dead, and healed the sick – healing them all. (Matthew 8:16, 12:15) He wasn’t Apostle Jesus, Pastor Jesus, Prophetic Jesus, or Teacher Jesus though He was. He was perfectly fine with being Jesus. The one who has the name above all names was a Servant and didn’t need a title! If you do not know what you’re calling is, I can tell you what it is. You are all called to Serve! We are all called to serve one another. Paul, Timothy, James, and Peter took upon themselves the role of being a Servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. Your identity is not in what you do or what you have, but who you are and whose you are!
Read and meditate on this powerful scripture:
“Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” (Matthew 12:15) After losing most of my belongings in the recent Ice Storm, the Holy Spirit spoke to me one day to go to a lake I often go to. While sitting there listening to what He wanted to say to me, I had a vision of Him beckoning me to come and run (not walk) on the water with Him. Then He said, ‘break all soul ties with furniture and earthly possessions.’ I was surprised! I didn’t think I had soul ties to anything. However, I obeyed. Suddenly I felt a detachment or disconnect spiritually from things. I had no idea. Having nothing is freeing! Are you carrying around things? Perhaps you don’t realize the weight you are carrying. The Holy Spirit is saying, ‘Let it go!’ Let it go! Allow Me to consume you and be free to serve!
Pray this with me:
Father, I come boldly before Your throne, and I repent for hanging on to things. The only thing I need is You, Father, and I cannot live without You. You are the Great I am. The name above every name. I ask you to forgive me for hanging on to things and not letting them go. I let go of everything that I have been hanging on to, and I lay ‘things’ on the altar at the foot of the cross and let them go, in the all-powerful name of Jesus. Consume me, Father! I declare this day I am a bondservant of Jesus Christ.
