Repentance from Mistakes You’ve Made
The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed but wants everyone to repent.
(2 Peter 3:9)
Listen My beloved one, Solomon, David’s son and the wisest king who ever lived on earth, also made wrong decisions. Remember this: ‘The decisions you make create your circumstances.’ God gave Solomon great wisdom and understanding, and knowledge as vast as the sands of the seashore. In fact, his wisdom exceeded that of all the wise men of the East and the wise men of Egypt. He was wiser than anyone else, including Ethan the Ezrahite and the sons of Mahol—Heman, Calcol, and Darda. His fame spread throughout all the surrounding nations. He composed some 3,000 proverbs and wrote 1,005 songs. He could speak with authority about all kinds of plants, from the great cedar of Lebanon to the tiny hyssop that grows from cracks in a wall. He could also speak about animals, birds, small creatures, and fish. And kings from every nation sent their ambassadors to listen to the wisdom of Solomon. (1 Kings 4:29-34)
Despite Solomon’s supernatural wisdom, he married the wrong women. In fact, he didn’t marry one wrong woman, he married so many ungodly women that they turned him away from God! Now King Solomon loved many foreign women. Besides Pharaoh’s daughter, he married women from Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon, and from among the Hittites. The Lord had clearly instructed the people of Israel, “You must not marry them, because they will turn your hearts to their gods.” Yet Solomon insisted on loving them anyway. He had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines. And in fact, they did turn his heart away from the Lord. (1 Kings 11:1-3)
Solomon was blessed with riches and supernatural wisdom, but he didn’t exercise even the slightest hint of Godly wisdom in choosing who to marry. I don’t know if there is anyone out there who has done this, but I know I certainly have in my younger years. It costs you everything when you do not marry the one God has for you, in addition your life will be hell. However, through repentance God can completely turn your life around.
Evidently, Solomon realized this severe mistake and realized what he lacked, then he wrote: ”The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10) God is a loving and longsuffering patient God. If you have made mistakes, own it and repent. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed but wants everyone to repent. (2 Peter 3:9)
Pray with me:
Father God, I confess to you that I have made some big mistakes in my life because I didn’t ask You and obey Your Word. I am truly sorry. I ask that You forgive me and cleanse me now of every mistake I have made washing me white as snow. Thank you for burying those mistakes. I forgive myself for the mistake I have made this day in Jesus all-powerful name. Amen.
