Real Leadership
Paul wrote a letter to his spiritual son Timothy instructing him in his walk. The books of Timothy are actually a training manual for the young disciple. Paul was encouraging him as a young minister of the gospel and instructing him on how to deal with difficult situations in ministry and life. His instructions will serve us well to apply to our lives today. Paul gives Timothy five charges I want to pass on to you:
1.Charge 1. Wage the good warfare. (1 Timothy 1:18-20)
2.Charge 2. Conduct yourself worthy of God’s house.
(1 Timothy 3:14-15)
3.Charge 3. Do not neglect your gift. (1 Timothy 4:11-16)
4.Charge 4. Observe these things without being prejudice. (1 Timothy 5:21)
5.Charge 5. Guard what is committed to you. (1 Timothy 6:20-21)
Paul shares and imparts to Timothy his purpose on numerous occasions declaring, ‘Now the purpose of the commandment is LOVE. (1 Timothy 1:5) Jesus walked in love everywhere He went, and He is our example to model. Paul believed leadership should be real to the core, and so do I. I believe leadership should be transparent. The reason I see so many people healed and restored is that I am very transparent. When you realize God allows you to walk through challenges and overcome them to qualify you to have a greater sphere of influence you won’t be so focused on what you are walking through. You will rise above the circumstances! Paul was quick to share his goals and visions with his team and encourage them in the manner best suited for them and I encourage you to do likewise. Paul considered his mission (not his methods) sacred. He also teaches us that:
1. Leaders oversee goals, but they let people choose their own method of achieving their goals.
2. Leaders create an atmosphere. They let people own their style.
3.Leaders determine the budget. They give ownership of how money is spent.
4. Leaders choose priorities. They share activities with gifted people.
5. Leaders train the team. They freely give away the credit for victories!
You are a leader. I encourage you to apply the charges Paul gave Timothy to your everyday life!
