What is the Tallit?
A Weapon of Warfare
Tell them to make for themselves tassels on the hems of their garments throughout their generations and put a cord of blue on the tassel of each hem. It shall be a tassel for you to look at and remember all the commandments of the Lord, to do them so that you do not follow after [the desires of] your own heart and eyes, [desires] after which you used to follow and play the prostitute, so that you may remember to do all My commandments and be holy (set apart) to your God. (Numbers 25:38-40 Amplified)
My beloved child, ‘Do you know what a Tallit is and what it’s for?’ Perhaps you see people wearing a Tallit as a head covering, and you have asked yourself, ‘Why do they wear this over their head?’ Because it is a Jewish Prayer Shawl, and it’s a type and shadow of the Tabernacle or a mini-Tabernacle. The word “Tallit” in Hebrew means “Little Tent.” The Hebrew word for tent is translated as “Tal,” adding the adverb “Lit” means little. The actual word “Tallit” means “to cover.” This symbolizes our being covered in God’s Presence. Tallit (the Prayer Shawl), the corner fringes on this garment, reminds the wearer of all the commandments in the Torah. In each of the four corners of the shawl are strings tied in a particular pattern, called (tzitzit) Tallit.
This is the instruction of the Lord, “Tell them to make for themselves tassels on the hems of their garments throughout their generations and put a cord of blue on the tassel of each hem. It shall be a tassel for you to look at and remember all the commandments of the Lord, to do them so that you do not follow after [the desires of] your own heart and eyes, [desires] after which you used to follow and play the prostitute, so that you may remember to do all My commandments and be holy (set apart) to your God. (Numbers 15:38-40, Deuteronomy 22:12)
The woman with the issue of blood for twelve long years touched the hem of His garment and He was wearing a Tallit. (Mark 5:27-30, Luke 8:43:45) Some versions of the Bible read – She touched the fringe of His garment and was made whole. The healing power of God was released into her life, and her circumstances were miraculously changed. When Jesus and his disciples crossed over to the other side, they went ashore at Gennesaret. The men of that city recognized Jesus and brought to Him everyone who was sick. They begged Him, ‘Please let them merely touch the fringe of your garment – everyone who touched the fringe was perfectly restored. (Matthew 14:34-36, Mark 6:56) For you who have a holy fear of the Most-High God, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings/tassels.
Wrapping yourself in a Tallit is how to be ushered into the Secret Place of the Most-High God. This is what it means ‘He who dwells in the shelter of the Most-High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty – whose power no foe can withstand. (Psalms 91:1) Your mind is covered as you pray while releasing the mercies and miracles of God. It is the hidden understanding of what Jesus meant when He said, ‘When you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. (Matthew 6:6) The traditional Hebrew blessing when putting on a Tallit is, ‘Blessed are You, O Lord our God, King of the universe who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us to wrap ourselves in the (tzitzit) Tallit. It’s typically written on the collar of the garment in Hebrew. The Tallit is a prayer shawl that hems you in or encircles you (covers you) in the secret place of the Most-High God, and you will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalms 91:1)
