The Power of a Parent’s Blessing
Beloved one, the blessing of God can change your life. I want to challenge you today, as we close out the year to speak a blessing over your children and grandchildren. Early in 2013, I flew in to spend a few days with my parents. I had been reading the book, ‘The Power of a Parent’s Blessing’ by Craig Hill and I highly recommend it. It was in my spirit strongly to ask my parents to declare blessing over me. I am the first born, and to be real I was determined I was not leaving until they prayed over me and blessed me. As we sat at the table having lunch one day, I asked my dad to pray blessing over me. He said, ‘Sugar, I already bless you. I said, ‘Dad I want to hear you pray blessing over me.’ Finally, he blessed me! I am so grateful they were together as he declared blessing over me. My Mom passed Thanksgiving that year and my dad passed in 2015. You have no idea how much I have been blessed knowing I received my parents’ blessing.
God’s blessing is described as the release of fruitfulness and multiplication. (Genesis 1:22) That gives us significant insight into the nature of blessing. So, we can define ‘blessing’ like this: ‘Blessing is the anointing of God to release increase, prosperity, and the multiplication of all that is good and pleasant in life.
When my grandson Joshua Caleb was born, I was in the hospital room with Karen when they handed him to me to hold. The moment I held him in my arms I began to weep because I heard in the spirit this baby is a Pastor. I declared it out loud in the hospital room with both families present. Through the years, when he was around 18 months to two years old he started wearing cowboy boots, a hat, jeans, and a belt buckle, you get the picture. I began calling him, ‘Nana’s little cowboy, preacher man. Then when he was three, I got him a pair of Superman pajamas with a cape. He began jumping off the sofa and anything he could climb up. I began calling him my little cowboy, superman, preacher man.
For 29 years, I have signed every card I have given him, ‘Nana’s little cowboy, superman, preacher man.’ I told him no matter his age, he would always be my cowboy, superman, preacher man! Almost four years ago, he and his wife found out they were having a baby. He came to me when they found out and said, ‘Nana, who knows God may give you two little cowboy, supermen, preacher men. I said, ‘Joshua, go ahead and prophesy. Throughout the years, I was declaring Joshua’s future and the blessings that go with it. Now he is doing the same over his son, Jackson. The power of a parent’s blessing!
I have told my grandson, Joshua you may not be a preacher man today, but before you leave this earth you will be a preacher. What do you see for your children and grandchildren? Declare the blessing and prophesy it as you speak. You don’t have to make it all religious. You are a change agent and there is power in your words. Break any word curses or negative words you have ever spoken over your children or grandchildren then declare, or prophesy, the blessing over your children and grandchildren as we enter this New Year!
Pray with me in agreement for the blessing of the Lord over your children and grandchildren:
Father God I lift my children and grandchildren to you and I sever at the root, curse, and renounce any word curse or negative word I have ever spoken to them or over them, and
render those words powerless – and in their place, I release the blessing of the Lord over ______, ______, _____, ______, _____ that makes each of them rich and adds no more sorrow to you. (Proverbs 10:22) I release the blessing, the anointing of God and release increase, prosperity, and the multiplication of all that is good and pleasant in life for each of you. (Genesis 1:22) I declare you have great favor! I declare sickness and disease must stay far away from you. I declare and decree you are blessed coming in and going out. You are the head and not the tail, above and not beneath. As your dad and mom, we call you blessed by the Lord in the all-powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
(Monday I will be praying blessings over you and your New Year)
