Jesus is Our Mediator,
Intercessor, Advocate, and Lord
Jesus is our Mediator, Intercessor, Advocate, and our Lord. He stands between us and the Father. For this, because I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named. (Ephesians 3:14-15) Kneeling when you pray is to humble yourself, it is an act of submission to Almighty God, to His will, plan, and purpose. Jesus Christ is our Mediator.
1. There is one mediator, Christ Jesus.
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, (Hebrews 1:1-2) God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds. (Hebrews 9:15) A mediator is someone who reconciles disputes or disagreements. A buffer, go-between, peacemaker, intercessor, and Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father interceding for you right now. (Matthew 26:64)
Father. But the Bible makes no mention of anything of the kind. There is only one between us and God, and that One is the Son. This is similar in form to (1 Corinthians 11:3), which shows that, of the Deities above us, only One stands between us and God the Father, that is, God the Son. This means that not even the Holy Spirit, sent to us as a Comforter, is a mediator.
2. Jesus is our intercessor.
Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father, and He is interceding for you and me at this very moment. Just as God rested on the seventh day of creation because everything was finished, Jesus rested beside the Father in heaven because it too was finished. Now he lives at the right hand of God interceding for us. If anyone dares to bring an accusation against us before God, Jesus is the one to testify for us. (Romans 8:34)
What is Jesus’ purpose in interceding for us? Jesus is always pleading our case before the Father, like a defense lawyer on our behalf. Jesus is interceding for us while Satan (whose name means “accuser”) is accusing us, pointing out our sins and frailties before God, just as he did with Job. (Job 1:6-12)
3. Jesus is our Advocate.
1 John 2:1-2. My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. An advocate is a person who comes to our aid or pleads our case to a judge. Advocates offer support, strength, and counsel and intercede for us when necessary. The Bible says that Jesus is an Advocate for those who’ve put their trust in Him: “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin.
What Does it Mean That Jesus Is Our Advocate? In the Bible, the High Priest was essentially the ultimate lawyer, a spiritual lawyer, before God the Father. Christ has been called to stand at our side. It is part of His calling. It is part of His character. There is no other God like this!
4. Jesus is our Lord.
For this reason, also, God highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name, which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11) God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) Christ died and rose again for this very purpose—to be Lord both of the living and of the dead. (Romans 14:9)
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. (Romans 10:9-10) Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are —yet he did not sin. (Hebrews 9:14-15) God gave His Son to die for us as the payment for our sins – and to break the power of the old sinful nature within our hearts, even before we were born – before we ever trusted Christ as Savior. Christ died for sinners.
If this were a personality, then one would begin to think that it is in a position somewhere between us, and the Holy Spirit is referred to as the parakletos, the Comforter. The Holy Spirit is our guide, leading us into all truth. Comforter means “one who goes alongside.” That means you are never alone He is always with you. (Genesis 28:15)
For this reason, Jesus is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promise of eternal inheritance. (Hebrews 9:15) Thank You Jesus for being our Mediator, Intercessor, Advocate, and Lord!
