Inner Healing
Beloved one, one of Jesus’ basic foundational ministries was healing the brokenhearted and binding or mending their wounds. Have you ever had a broken heart? I was many years ago, and because of the trauma, it took me three years to be healed and restored by the power of the Holy Spirit. I sit in God’s presence every single day and received communion because communion is the meal that heals. Then one day I realized I was healed and during that dark season, God birthed ministry out of me when I thought it was all over. Bam! God healed me and He desires to do the same for you. Taking the time to heal yourself is undoubtedly the greatest gift you can ever give yourself!
Jesus came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read. And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: “the Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:16-18)
Broken-hearted is two words put together and in Greek, it’s two words. Broken in Greek means to break, shatter in pieces, or bruise. Heart in the Greek is cardia or cardiac. What this means is Jesus said, ‘I have come to heal those who have had their heartbroken, shattered or bruised. Everyone at some point in their life has had a broken heart, your heart has been shattered or bruised. The heart is your feelings or thoughts. The seat of your emotions. Your heart can think! As a man thinks in his heart so is he. (Proverbs 23:7) But Jesus, knowing their (Pharisees) thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? (Matthew 9:4)
Did you know there is a study on heart transplant patients who have memories of the person they received their new heart from, and scientists are trying to figure out, how in the world this is happening? God had it all figured out from the end to the beginning! Your heart can think! Have you ever said this, ‘I love you with all my heart?’ Here’s what you were saying: ‘I love you with all my pump! My pump loves you.’
There is something deep inside of us that can get hurt and wounded. Would you agree with that? Jesus said, ‘I came to heal the brokenhearted and that’s you!’ Another way of saying (Luke 4:18) is to release freedom to those who are oppressed. Oppressed means bruised. Bruised is when the capillaries underneath the skin break and there is discoloration because there is bleeding under the skin (bruised). In other words, it’s an inward wound that needs healing and that is called ‘Inner Healing.’ Even when there is healing, that same area can be bruised again.
Have you ever been bruised? Growing up my dad called me a name and told me I had big lips. God healed me inside! Today women pay to have larger lips, I am blessed. I have a sibling that I love who has told me on a couple of occasions, ‘Judy you have a big nose!’ I ignored it at first then I noticed my nose. It’s not that big, but I was bruised by those words. God healed me inside! Please know your words cut and bruise others or bring life and healing. (Proverbs 12:18) Perhaps someone has said, ‘your too skinny or your overweight, either way, it cuts and bruises you. Are you with me? The most important thing with people that have called you names don’t allow it to harden your heart or become bitter. Allow God to heal you where you are bruised and become better!
Pray with me:
Father God, I come before you and confess I have been cut and bruised by words and I am asking you to heal and restore me on the authority of the Word of God in Jesus’ righteous holy name. I take authority and dominion over every word curse spoken against me and render them powerless over my life declaring that no weapon formed against me can prosper. (Isaiah 54:17) I break every word curse and I curse, renounce, and sever at the root every word that has been spoken against me. (Now release those words that cut or bruised you, give them to Jesus.) I declare my healing by the power of the Holy Spirit – and in the place of every word curse, I release the Word of God which has the power to deliver, save, heal, and restore me in Jesus’ all-powerful name. Amen.
