Listening to the Voice of the Holy Spirit
My child, are you listening to My voice so intently that you hear even the faintest whisper? Do I have to go to extraordinary measures to get your attention? It’s always easier when you hear, listen, and obey. I tenderly call you; then I wait for you to stop what you are doing and listen – I never yell to get your attention. It is in your best interest if you stop and listen. When you don’t listen, I have to use ways and means that command your undivided attention. I am speaking to you even at this moment. My presence is all around you. I am with you, and I will go with you everywhere you go, and I will not leave you until I have fulfilled all my promises. (Genesis 28:15) I am drawing you close to Me to have an intimate encounter with you. Stop what you are doing and close your eyes for a moment. Do you sense My presence? Reach out and touch Me! Listen, and I will instruct you. You have everything you need to fulfill your purpose. Tell Me what is on your heart! I already know, but I want to hear your voice. I miss you communicating with Me.
Read the Bible and discover through scripture:
1. Holy Spirit will instruct and guide you
Go, inspect the city of Jerusalem. Walk around and count the many towers. Take note of the fortified walls, and tour all the citadels, that you may describe them to future generations, for that is what God is like. He is our God forever and ever, and he will guide us until we die. (Psalms 48:12-14 NLT)
2. Holy Spirit will comfort you
“If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you. I will talk to the Father, and He’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The godless world can’t take him in because it doesn’t have eyes to see him, doesn’t know what to look for. But you know him already because he has been staying with you and will even be in you! (John 14:16-17 Message)
3. Holy Spirit will protect you
When they were safely out of the city, one of the angels ordered, “Run for your lives! And don’t look back or stop anywhere in the valley! Escape to the mountains, or you will be swept away!” “Oh no, my lord!” Lot begged. “You have been so gracious to me and saved my life, and you have shown such great kindness. But I cannot go to the mountains. Disaster would catch up to me there, and I would soon die. See, there is a small village nearby. Please let me go there instead; don’t you see how small it is? Then my life will be saved.” “All right,” the angel said, “I will grant your request. I will not destroy the little village. But hurry! Escape to it, for I can do nothing until you arrive there.” (This explains why the village was known as Zoar, which means “little place.”)
Lot reached the village just as the sun was rising over the horizon. Then the Lord rained down fire and burning sulfur from the sky on Sodom and Gomorrah. He utterly destroyed them, along with the other cities and villages of the plain, wiping out all the people and every bit of vegetation. But Lot’s wife looked back as she was following behind him, and she turned into a pillar of salt. (Genesis 19:17-26)
4. Holy Spirit will teach you obedience
“Do not take any of the things set apart for destruction, or you yourselves will be completely destroyed, and you will bring trouble on the camp of Israel. Everything made from silver, gold, bronze, or iron is sacred to the Lord and must be brought into his treasury.” (Joshua 6:18-19 NLT)
5. Holy Spirit yearns to express His love to you
The Father himself loves you dearly because you love me and believe that I came from God. (John 16:27 NLT)
Noise drowns out My voice, and you can’t hear! My beloved be still and know that I am God. (Psalms 51:10) That is when you will hear My voice, and I will give you instruction, direction, peace, and guide you into the plan I designed just for you. Tune in and intently listen to My voice – I am waiting to speak to you!
Who out there fears God listens to the voice of his servant? For anyone out there who doesn’t know where you’re going, anyone groping in the dark Here’s what: Trust in God. Lean on your God! But if all you’re after is making trouble, playing with fire, go ahead and see where it gets you. Set your fires, stir people up, blow on the flames, but don’t expect me just to stand there and watch. I’ll hold your feet to those flames. (Isaiah 50:10-11 Message)
