Called to Greatness
My child, Paul wanted to go back and visit cities where he and Barnabas had previously preached the Good News of the Gospel to see how the new believers were doing. Barnabas agreed and wanted to take along John Mark, but Paul disagreed strongly since John Mark had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in their work. Barnabas and Paul disagreed so strongly they decided to part ways and went in different directions. Barnabas took John Mark with him and sailed for Cyprus. Paul chose Silas, and as he left, the believers entrusted him to the Lord’s gracious care. Then he traveled throughout Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches there. (Acts 15:36-41 NLT)
Paul went to Derbe and Lystra, and there he met a disciple named Timothy. He was the son of a Jewish woman who believed, her name was Eunice and his grandmother Lois, but his father was Greek. Timothy was well thought of by the believers in Lystra and Iconium, so Paul asked him to join them on their journey. (Acts 16:1-3 NLT) Then they went from city to city, making known the decision concerning the Gentiles, as decided by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem. So, the church grew daily in faith and numbers. (Acts 16:4-5 TLB) Timothy became a spiritual son of Paul. Everyone needs spiritual authority they can turn to for guidance as a spiritual father, mother, or covering. Their investment of time in you will catapult you into your destiny and purpose. This was the beginning of Timothy’s ministry, Paul was his mentor and spiritual father, both fulfilled the call of God on their life. Who is your mentor or role model? It’s important to have someone who speaks into your life to pull out the greatness. You are called to greatness!
