Don’t Argue with God
Beloved one it’s not wise to argue with God. God doesn’t change His mind about your assignment. You were created for it! We can learn some lessons from Moses. It doesn’t matter if you have made a lot of mistakes or not God chose you. God selects people that the world would deem unlikely candidates to be used. He only uses imperfect people because that’s the only kind that exists quoted by Dallas Willard. Moses was married to Zipporah and they had two sons, later Moses separated from his wife. He sent her back to her father Jethro, along with their two sons. We do not know precisely when because it is not noted in scripture, but most scholars believe it was in (Exodus 4:18-26).
“One day when Moses was at least forty years old, he decided to visit his relatives and he saw an Egyptian beating an Israelite and he killed and buried the man thinking no one saw him.
(Acts 7:23-25) The next day he saw two brothers who were Israelites fighting and tried to be the peacemaker. The brother who started the fight pushed Moses and said, ‘you going to kill me like you killed the Egyptian yesterday? Moses ran and lived as a foreigner in Midian after that. (Acts 7:26-29)
When Moses was around eighty, he was in the desert near Mount Sinai, and an angel appeared to Moses in the flame of a burning bush. He was amazed at the sight, and he started to move closer! The voice of the Lord called out to him, ‘I am the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.’ Moses shook with terror and did not dare to look.“The Lord said, ‘Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground. I’ve seen the oppression and heard the cries of my people and I have come down to rescue them. Moses, I am sending you back to Pharaoh. (Acts 7:30-34)
You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt.” But Moses argued with God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh and lead the Israelites out of Egypt? He thought, ‘who am I?’ I am a nobody! God said, ‘I will be with you! This is a sign when you come out of Egypt with My people, worship Me at this very mountain!’ Moses protested again, ‘if I go tell the Israelites the God of your ancestors has sent me to you, they will ask me, ‘What is His name?’ Tell them, ‘I am who I am sent me! The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, Yahweh is His name. He has sent me to you!’ (Exodus 3:10-15)
Moses protested yet again, ‘What if they don’t listen to me or believe? What if they say, the Lord didn’t appear to you! Three times Moses argued with God thinking who do you think I am?
The Lord said, ‘Moses what’s in your hand?’ He responded, ‘a staff!’ The Lord said, ‘throw it down. He did and it became a snake.’ Then the Lord said, ‘pick it up by the tail.’ He did it, and it became a shepherd’s staff in his hand. The Lord said, perform this sign and they will believe that the Lord, the Go of their ancestors, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob has appeared to you! (Exodus 4:1-5)
Moses continually pleaded with the Lord saying I’m not good with words! I get all tongue-tied, my words get tangled and I stutter. The Lord said, ‘Moses who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether a person speaks or not? Hears or not? Sees or not? Is it not the Lord? Now go! I will be with you and instruct you on what to say. But Moses continued pleading with God, Lord, please! Send anyone but me! Then the Lord got angry with Moses. All right! What about your brother Aaron, he speaks well. Look up! He is on his way to meet you and will be happy to see you! (Exodus 4:10-15) Talk to him and I will give him the words to speak and I will instruct you both on what to do. Aaron your brother will be your spokesman for the people. He will be your mouthpiece!
Make sure you take your shepherd’s staff and use it to perform the miraculous signs I have shown you.” (Exodus 4:16-17) Today, God would say to you, ‘I don’t need your ability!’ I just need you to yield! You might not think you can speak if all you did was talk to sheep!
