Do You Desire to Launch a Business?
Beloved, June is the month God is pouring out Special Blessings on Businesses. There is a strong anointing for those who are in business to be blessed in abundance. I have owned three businesses in my lifetime. Remember it is God who gives you the power to have success. (Deuteronomy 8:18) You can’t take credit for something that belongs to God. I can tell you the single most important thing I did:
1. I put God first in everything I did, and I gave Him all the glory and honor for my success. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
I remember reading this scripture in the Living Bible in the early ’80s and it read, ‘If you put God first, He will direct you and crown your efforts with success!’ (Proverbs 3:5-6) I said, ‘Wow! If I put God first, He will direct me, and crown my efforts with success!’ I can do that! And I did! He wowed me! My first business: I was a director with Mary Kay Cosmetics, the first six months I became a Sales Director. The first year I won a pink Buick Regal and a pink Cadillac and placed number #9 in the nation in the Queen’s Court of Recruiting. My sales team and I sold almost $350,000 in cosmetics a year. Mary Kay drove it home put God first, family second, and career third. I got it! Shortly after I began my tenure with the company, I took the initiative and went through special training to be a make-up artist and began doing makeovers.
2. Get the education and training to be the best in your field of expertise. (2 Timothy 2:15)
No one wanted a facial, but everyone wanted a makeover! The training I received from Mary Kay Cosmetics prepared me for what I do today because I learned what is most important! I learned that putting God first, my family second and my career third was the only way to be successful. I was raised with a strong work ethic, a positive outlook and that was in my favor. I am not afraid to work and do whatever I need to do with integrity. Hard work, dedication, and staying true to your faith pay off in the end. Stick to it and you will be rewarded — God will make sure of it. Don’t lose your energy. Find passion in your work and remain steadfast in your love for the Lord. Then, you will see success.
3. Work hard, have a positive outlook, and have integrity. Do what you say you will do. (Proverbs 21:3, 2 Corinthians 8:2, Luke 6:31)
God blessed me with great success. After several years, God clearly spoke to me one evening in a Sunday evening service and said, ‘I want you to resign to be home with your daughter through her teen years.’ I obeyed! I am so grateful I did. Then my husband and I launched a building company. I was able to work through the day while my daughter was in school and be home when she came home. I took classes in interior design. It was so much fun working with the architects and designing other’s dream homes. I made all the design choices from the ground up and loved it. When the buyers moved into their homes, they hired me to come to help them decorate their homes.
We moved to Dallas after many years of building custom homes, and I was offered a job to go to work selling real estate. The first thing that happened, I was sent to two weeks of school in Houston to learn how to sell the way the company wanted me to do it. Honestly, it was so stressful daily I prayed, ‘God help me to get this!’ (Philippians 4:13) I was privileged to design and decorate 95% of the homes I sold. I worked hard and did what I loved to do. My customers referred their friends and family to me because they knew I really cared about them and made sure everything from the ground up was right. God blessed my socks off financially and I won many awards. Perseverance is key. Don’t give up! Keep doing the right thing every day and the reward will come.
4. Perseverance is key. Don’t give up! (Galatians 6:9)
The most wonderful of all, I had the opportunity to be a witness in the marketplace. It was my ministry in the making. I was blessed to pray with many people, (my clients opened the door for me to witness to pray with them) leading many to Christ. If you want to be in ministry, be a light in the marketplace first. It was never my dream to have a ministry. I love people and I have loved everything I have ever did. I would highly recommend if you desire to launch a business to find something you love to do. It won’t feel like work! What are you passionate about? Make it a business. (Romans 12:11) Work hard! (Colossians 3:23) Commit your business unto the Lord. Put God first in all you do, and He will bless you and cause you to prosper and succeed. I asked God one day, ‘how has doing makeovers, helping others build their dream homes contributed to me being in ministry. He said, ‘you did makeovers on people, then you did makeovers on their homes, and now I have called you to makeovers spiritually.’ Everything you have done in your life God will use it to do what He created you to do!
5. Commit your business to the Lord, work hard and let your light shine!
Do what you love to do! Jesus told Peter, ‘do what you love to do!’ Go down to the lake and fish. The first fish you catch, open its mouth and there will be a four-drachma coin. Take it and pay for your taxes and mine! (Matthew 17:27) I advise you as Jesus advised Peter, ‘do what you love to do!’
6. Do what you love to do!
