A Prayer for Those Who Have Suffered Loss
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. (Psalms 34:18 NIV)
Beloved, no matter what type of loss you have suffered, I want to pray for you. Mostly if you have lost a loved one/ones, a friend, lost your job, lost your business, lost your marriage, lost your home, lost your finances, or loss in any form. Loss is devastating. I know because I have suffered significant losses in my life, and I can tell you I would not have made it through had it not been for King Jesus. He didn’t just help me through, He healed and restored me to wholeness in every area of my life over time! He desires to do the same for you. May I pray with you?
Pray this with me:
Father God, I come boldly before Your throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace. (Hebrews 4:16) I have never needed Your mercy and grace more than I need it right now. There are times I am so overwhelmed I don’t even know how to pray, so my spirit groans. (Romans 8:26) In my weakness, You are strong. My heart is heavily burdened. The losses have crushed me. I know I am overcoming by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of my testimony. (Revelations 12:11) You alone are my hope! Lavish Your great love on me and give me back my joy, peace, and hope for the future. You, Lord, are close to the brokenhearted; You rescues those whose spirits are crushed, save me! (Psalms 34:18)
I know You are near me, but I don’t feel You at times, and I feel lost, and I don’t know what to do. I have lost my hope; please give me a new vision for the coming year. (Habakkuk 2:2-3). I need you. I know if I draw close to You – You will draw close to me. (James 4:8) I ask You to shift my thinking and change the atmosphere. Please let me tangibly know Your presence, so there is no denying it – as we celebrate Jesus’ birth this Christmas!
I ask You to exchange my grief and give me joy once again! I know what I am walking through is only a season that has a beginning, and it has an end. Thank You for allowing me to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thank You, Father, for restoring, supporting, and strengthening me and placing my feet on a firm foundation. (1 Peter 5:10) You alone are my strength and shield – a very present help in the time of trouble. (Psalms 46:1) I trust You, Father! Please help me and make provision for my family and me. Fill us with joy! Today I choose to sing to the top of my lung’s songs of thanksgiving. (Psalms 28:7) Just like David did, I say to my soul, ‘soul bless the Lord!’ (Psalms 103:1-2 & 20-22) I declare I know You will keep my family and me in perfect peace, loving on us as we heal, because we trust You. We fix our thoughts on You, oh, Lord! (Isaiah 26:3)
Help me, Father, to focus on You and not on my losses. Forgive me, Father! Today I place a demand on Your Promises in my life and my family for perfect health, peace, protection, provision, and hope. I agree with You, oh God! You are my Savior and soon coming King. Thank You for taking delight in me and calming my fears with love and peace. I meditate on Your Word day and night. (Zephaniah 3:17 & Joshua 1:6-9) I praise You and thank You that You are at work turning all of this around for my good and Your glory because I love You! (Romans 8:28) Your faithful love, Lord, never ends! Your mercies never cease. Great is Your faithfulness; Your mercies begin each morning afresh. (Lamentations 3:22-23) For Your anger lasts only a moment, but Your favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning. (Psalm 30:5) Lord, thank You for granting me favor!
There is an end to this pain and suffering. I only ask You to sustain me through the night as I wait to see the morning sun. As I walk through this holiday season, give me a fresh glimpse of who You are. Help me remember the suffering You experienced as You watched Your Son on the cross, a gift given just for me. Help me remember with joy and wonder the amazing gifts we have simply because You gave a precious baby born that Christmas morning. Help me focus my heart and mind on You, Immanuel, God with me. You are my only hope, this Christmas and every day. I declare You are my Way-Maker, promise keeper and light in the darkness, My God – that is who You are. I declare peace is flowing from the crown of my head to the souls of my feet. Sweet peace is permeating every cell in my being in the all-powerful name of Jesus Christ the Messiah. Amen.
