A Burning Passion
He picked up five smooth stones from a stream and put them into his shepherd’s bag. Then, armed only with his shepherd’s staff and sling, he started across the valley to fight the Philistine. Goliath walked out toward David with his shield bearer ahead of him, sneering in contempt at this ruddy-faced boy. “Am I a dog,” he roared at David, “that you come at me with a stick?” And he cursed David by the names of his gods. “Come over here, and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and wild animals!” Goliath yelled. David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel! And everyone assembled here will know that the Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the Lord’s battle, and he will give you to us!” (1 Samuel 45:40-47 NLT)
My child, on the road to discovering your purpose you may feel very unqualified to lead, most leaders feel that way. Interestingly, most people are called while they are at work such as Moses (Exodus 3:4-12), Elisha (1 Kings 19:19-21), Jeremiah (1:4-19) David, Ezekiel (Ezekiel 1:1-28, 2:1-9 – 3:2) Isaiah (Isaiah 6:1-13), Gideon (Judges 6-8) and so many others. I always look for people and promote them to leadership that the world would never choose. I’m not looking for people with wealth, status quo, handsome or beautiful, charismatic, or smooth talking. I choose the most unsuspecting, most unqualified, then pick them up from rock bottom, clean them up and download in them everything they need to be a Leader then I promote them at just the right time. I look for people who have been broken and are humble with wisdom and a desire to obey My Word. People cannot promote you; lasting promotion only comes from Me. Suddenly in an uncommon way I will use things such as a burning heart, a burning bush, or a burning house to cause you to arise to the occasion. David had a burning heart.
David, who was just a young boy arose to the occasion to take out the uncircumcised Philistine/giant who threatened all of Israel daily. David put his trust in Me and confidently told Saul, I have killed a lion and a bear tending my dad’s sheep and goats and I will kill this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God and he did. (1 Samuel 45:32-37) The pagan giant made fun of him as he moved forward toward him and David said, ‘you come to me with a spear and a sword, but I come to you in the name of the Lord – he took five smooth stones and put them in his sling and the giant was out. David didn’t leave till he finished the job! (1 Samuel 45:40-47) When you were in your mother’s womb, I deposited purpose on the inside of you. Jeremiah too felt unqualified when I called him. In fact, when I called him, his response was: ‘I can’t speak, and I am too young!’ (Jeremiah 1:4-19) What lies of the enemy of your destiny is stopping you from doing what you were created to do? Now is the time to run to your destiny!
