Ask for the Ancient Paths
The Lord said to his people: “You are standing at the crossroads. So, consider your path. Ask where the old, reliable paths are. Ask where the path is that leads to blessing and follow it. If you do, you will find rest for your souls.” But they said, “We will not follow it!” (Jeremiah 6:16 Net Bible)
Beloved one are you aware that we are to ask for the ancient paths because it is the good way to walk and find rest for your soul? (Jeremiah 6:16) It should be a theme scripture in our lives, don’t you think? When we stand at a crossroads it is a good thing to see and ask for the right path. Suddenly, that scripture just leaped off the page at me. I have never heard anyone speak of this scripture, have you? In Greek ‘ancient’ is the word ‘Olam’ (O-L-A-M) it doesn’t just mean old or old fashioned but means ‘perpetual, timeless, before time, eternity the ways of God that were from before God created the earth’!
Many years ago, I went through a dark season, and in a vision, I was standing at a crossroads. (Proverbs 8:2) The Holy Spirit revealed to me years earlier I had not listened or paid attention to all the red flags nor did I listen to my gut (the Holy Spirit) in making a life decision and it had cost me! It cost me years (time), money, and health. Can I tell you I learned a valuable life lesson; I do nothing without asking the Holy Spirit which direction I am to go or what He would have me do and I do not rush it! I wait until I hear from Him!
Almost a year ago, I heard the Holy Spirit say, ‘I want you to take three months off you need rest!’ I had one more engagement on my calendar at the time and thought there is no way I stop until after the upcoming event. So, I prayed and said, ‘Holy Spirit please help me get through this next engagement, and I will take the time off.’ I packed my bags and was off on the trip, without realizing the Holy Spirit had not said a word. I assumed He would help me, but that is not what He said!
On the trip, I had a terrible fall in the middle of the night in the dark, broke three ribs, tore the rotator cuff on my right shoulder, punctured my lungs, and ended up with covid double pneumonia. Every doctor from that state and in Dallas said, ‘It’s going to take a minimum of three months for you to recover.’ Oh my, that sounded familiar! Can I tell you when you don’t listen and obey the Holy Spirit who knows best, it will cost you! It cost me six months to recover not three! It cost me time, money, and health and when you don’t listen it will cost you! Learn a lesson from my experience and obey!
The other thing I discovered when I returned home in a wheelchair and needed someone to help care for me was how God protected me and it could have cost me my life because the fall was that serious! On my second night home around 11:00 PM one of my best friends of 45 years, Debbie’s husband called me and told me his wife had a terrible fall and died. She could not be revived! I was stunned! Two days later my sister called me and told me the woman who had come to her house to give us massages in the past, had a bad fall and died! God always confirms His Word with two or three witnesses! I was astonished! I said, Father God, thank you for saving my life! It could have been and should have been a lot worse due to the fall, but God!
I don’t know why it never crossed my mind to postpone the upcoming event, which would have been an easy thing to do. However, it never crossed my mind, but I do know God is sovereign, and when He gives you an instruction, He expects His children to obey because He knows all. I don’t know who this message is for, but in my spirit, I absolutely know this is a word for someone! Pay attention! God is speaking to you loud and clear! Listen and obey!
