Psalms 149 – A Psalm of Praise Warfare
Beloved one, this is a Psalm of warfare, and praise is the weaponry that is that works. It starts by instructing us to Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, sing praises in the assembly of the faithful. Rejoice in your maker, exalt your King. Make music and break forth in dancing to the rhythm of drums, tambourines, and harps. (Psalms 149:1-3 TPT) David danced before the King of Kings until he danced right out of his clothes. (2 Samuel 6:14) For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. Let the saints be joyful in glory; Let them sing aloud on their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand. (Psalms 149:4 NKJV)
Let true lovers break out in praise, sing out from wherever they’re sitting, shout the high praises of God, shout the high praises of God, wave their swords in the wild sword – dance – a warning of vengeance on the God-defying nations, a signal that punishment’s coming, their kings chained and hauled off to jail, their leaders behind bars for good, the judgment on them carried out to the letter – and all who love God in the seat of honor! Hallelujah!! (Psalms 149:5-9 Message)
The word ‘praise’ is one of six different words used for praise in the Old Testament. It is the Hebrew word ‘halel’ from which we get our English word ‘hallelujah.’ ‘Halel’ interpreted means ‘to make a show,’ as in the opposite of being pious. That’s what God uses for the word for praise: the halel! Think about how people act in a football stadium or at a basketball game. See what kind of celebratory displays are shown when a team scores or makes an important play. Why there and not in the house of God? It is time we get excited about what our great and mighty God has done for us!
Stop for a moment and think of all the many ways God has been so good to you and praise His holy name! Tell Him how grateful and thankful you are because He has favored you and been so kind to you and He didn’t even have to! Now that’s something to get excited about in all the blessings, tremendous salvations, and outpourings of God’s grace and mercy, as well as His deliverance and power over the enemy in our lives and our family’s lives. I don’t know about you, but I humbly bow in His presence with gratefulness and thankfulness because He has been so good to me. He is a good, good Father.
Praise is an overflow of our hearts in gratitude for God’s goodness to you and me! If you are grateful for all God has done in your life, and are thankful for it, watch out! There’s a wellspring that will bubble up inside you and you can’t keep from praising the Lord! Praise is an attitude of gratitude! Take the time today when you are all alone just you and God and sing a song to the Lord Most High. Sing directly to Him expressing your gratitude for His goodness toward you and your family. He’s waiting to listen! It gives Him pleasure when we sing praises to Him! Go ahead and sing to Jesus sometime today!
