Broken and Poured Out

My precious child it was just before Passover at the time the woman with the alabaster flask of costly oil of spikenard was anointing Jesus and preparing Him for His burial. At the same time the chief priests, scribes, and teachers of the law were plotting and looking for an opportunity to kill Him – (Mark 14:1-3) and Judas was conspiring with them. (Mark 14:10) She opened the bottle and poured the perfume on His head. Some of the guests became furious among themselves. “That’s criminal! A sheer waste! This perfume could have been sold for well over a year’s wages and handed out to the poor.” Isn’t this the truth in your own life? When you give your greatest sacrificial offering unto the Lord, it’s usually in the middle of the most challenging of hardships and trials!

They swelled up in anger, nearly bursting with indignation over her. They accused her of being wasteful and foolish. (Mark 14:3-5) Jesus said, ‘Let her alone! Why are you giving her a hard time? She has just done something wonderfully significant for me. (Mark 14:6-7) She did what she could when she could—she pre-anointed my body for burial. And you can be sure that wherever in the whole world the Message is preached, what she just did is going to be talked about admiringly.” (Mark 14:8-9)

Completely unaware of what was to come, Mary gave because she loved Jesus! You may not know why but in your greatest hour of challenge, your greatest gift sacrificially will bring your greatest anointing. The sweet presence of God will change you!
