Powerful Prayer

The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5:16)

Beloved one, you can have a powerful prayer life in action that produces great results. The effectual fervent prayers of a righteous man or woman avails/accomplishes much. (James 5:16) The word ‘fervent’ means forceful, passionate, heartfelt, and powerful. It implies that a passionate wholehearted prayer is more effective than a half hearted prayer. Think about it, when you pray are there times you pray with an earnest heart passionately vs. praying before you go to sleep.

There are three words that illustrate powerful prayers in action:
1.   Effective
2.   Earnest
3.   Avail
Effective means to be operative, be at work, put forth power: to be powerful in action. It stems from the word “work” (Strong’s G1756) as in (Ephesians 3:20 NKJV) Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. There are several different translations that use the word either earnest or fervent. Earnest means diligent, heartfelt. (Strong’s G4705) In other words, prayers should be consistent and sincere. Avail means capable and has power.
Recently, I received a call from someone out of state who needed prayer asap. Her godson was in the wrong place at the wrong time, with the wrong people, and was charged with armed burglary. At seventeen years old he was facing 10 years prison time and was tried as an adult. He had a jury trial, but the jury couldn’t decide so, his fate was in the hands of the judge and God. When I tell you we bombarded heaven for this young man for about an hour, that is an understatement. I would call the time we prayed together passionate, forceful, wholehearted prayer! Suddenly she got the call, the judge ruled not guilty, on breaking and entering, guilty of stolen property in his possession and a fine of $5500K. Never in the history of the county he lives in has that ever happened. When the verdict was announced, he gave his heart to Christ Jesus. What a miracle! God heard our prayers.

Jeremiah 33:3 says When you call upon the name of the Lord, He will hear you, answer you, and show you great and mighty things you know not of!

You can have prayers that are powerful in action, that work, and produce results.
