The Days of Awe Begins
Under the old system, the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer could cleanse people’s bodies from ceremonial impurity. Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. And for this reason, He is the Mediator of the New Covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of eternal inheritance. (Hebrews 9:13-14 NLT)
Precious one, the Days of Awe began at sundown last night on September 26, (Rosh Hashanah and ends on October 5, 2022, the Day of Atonement. It’s the Holiest Day of the Year. You may say, ‘what is that?’ I wasn’t taught as a child either. It begins ten days before Yom Kippur known as the holiest day of the year, also known as ‘the Day of Atonement.’ The Ten Days of Awe are a time of personal reflection, repentance, and honoring God with fasting, prayer, and asking yourself, ‘Where am I in my relationship with God?’ You might be asking yourself, ‘aren’t these High and Holy days a Jewish tradition?’ It is a time for All Believers, all over the world, no matter your denomination. It’s a time we think of what our Savior and Lord Jesus did for all of us on the Cross at Calvary.
In the Old Testament, the High Priest would go into the Holy of Holies to commune with God only once a year. (Hebrews 9:7) In the New Testament Jesus died on the cross for your sins and mine making it possible for all believers to always come into fellowship and spend time with Him anytime. (Matthew 27:50-51, Hebrews 6:19-20, Hebrews 9:24-26) One of the concepts of these Days of Repentance is God has books that He writes our names in, writing down who will live or die. They are written during Rosh Hashanah but our actions during the 10 Days of Awe can alter God’s Decree. It is a time to restore broken relationships. Asking them to forgive you where you were wrong and likewise.
It is a time of reconciliation with people you have wronged or who have wronged you. Can you forgive someone you may never hear, and I am sorry from? We are instructed in the Word of God to love one another including the unlovable. (John 13:34) The forty days prior to Rosh Hashanah are not about a salvation issue, but it is about a relationship issue. Do you have an intimate personal relationship with Jesus? Father God gave his only Son and brought you and me into His family through King Jesus. How are you behaving as His Child? We are His beloved; do we love Him in the same way He loves us? Spend some time reflecting on this. My prayer is I ask Father God daily if there is anything in me that does not please Him please reveal it so I can repent. Create in me a clean heart God and renew a right spirit within me. (Psalms 51:10)
