Qualified to Lead
So then, let us [who minister] be regarded as servants of Christ and stewards (trustees, administrators) of the mysteries of God [that He chooses to reveal].
(1 Corinthians 4:1 Amplified)
My child, whatever is going on in your marriage, with your children, the physical condition of your house, your body, or your finances, will impact you publicly. Consider these five areas of significant importance if you’re wanting to be a leader or considering someone as a leader. Many will argue that what happens privately has nothing to do with their effectiveness as a leader, the way they serve or perform on the job. However, what happens in your private life spills over into your public life! What goes on behind closed doors in a leader’s life will tell you precisely what kind of blessings or problems they will bring to their public ministry/job. What starts at the head flows to the body! (1 Corinthians 4:1)
If someone leading you has financial problems – you will likely have financial problems. If they have issues with their children, you will likely have issues with your children, etc. On the other hand, if they have a life of order and peace, so will you. For this reason, Paul urged Timothy to take a more in-depth look at the personal life of a potential leader before asking him to be part of the Ministry Team. (1Timothy 3:4-5) God designed the home to be a honing tool for many of the qualities required to be a leader in the Kingdom of God. You must manage your own family well, having children who respect and obey you. (Ephesians 6:1-3) If a man cannot manage his own house, how can he take care of God’s church?
Paul tells Timothy you know a person is ready to lead from their life and experience. He/She has shown they can successfully give oversight to a group of people or a project.’ The word ‘house’ in the Greek literally means ‘physical house and everything that happens in your house.’ How well do you manage your home, your children, the upkeep of your physical residence, and finances? You can determine how well a person will serve by taking a good look at their:
1. Homelife (2 Corinthians 6:14, Ephesians 5:21)
2. Children (Proverbs 22:6, Psalms 127:3-5)
3. House (Isaiah 32:18, Proverbs 24:3-4, 12:24)
4. Body (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
5. Finances (1 Timothy 5:8)
You will know someone by their fruit!
