A Fiercely Jealous Lover
My beloved child, where do you think arguing, quarreling, fighting, bickering, and lack of unity come from? Do you think they just happen? Think again! They come about because you want your own way, and you fight for it deep inside yourself. You lust for what you don’t have and are willing to kill to get it. You want what isn’t yours and will risk violence to get your hands on it. (James 4:1) Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask Me. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. (James 4:2-3) Your cheating on Me the Lord your God! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of My way and Me. And do you suppose I don’t care?
The Proverb has it that “I am a fiercely jealous lover.” (Proverbs 6:34) And what I give in love is far better than anything else you’ll find. It’s common knowledge that “I the Lord your God go against the willful proud; I give grace to the willing humble.” (James 4:4-6) So let Me work — My will in you. So humble yourselves before Me, the Lord your God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to Me, and I will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty, is divided between Me and the world. (James 4:7-8) Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Me, and I will lift you up in honor. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper. Resist the devil, and he will flee, running away from you. Cry out Jesus, and I will be at your side and in your presence in no time. Quit dabbling in sin.
Purify your inner life. Quit playing the field, hit bottom, then cry your eyes out. Stop dividing your loyalty between the world and Me. The fun and games are over. Get serious, really serious. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Get down on your knees before your Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet. (James 4:7-10) Don’t bad-mouth each other, friends. It’s My Word, My Message, My Royal Rule, that takes a beating in that kind of talk. You’re supposed to be honoring the Message, not writing graffiti all over it. I am in charge of deciding human destiny. Who do you think you are to meddle in the destiny of others? Humble yourself before Me, and I will lift you up!
