Run from Temptation
My child consider the life of Joseph, God’s destiny for him and of His people. His jealous brothers sold him into slavery. Potiphar, the captain of Pharaoh’s guard, purchased him, and he found himself a slave of his household. But God’s favor was upon Joseph, and he prospered while being a slave. God not only blessed Joseph, but He blessed Potiphar house too! The blessing came upon Potiphar because of the favor of God upon Joseph. (Genesis 39:6) But there was a threat to Potiphar’s house! His wife was attracted to Joseph and tempted him to commit adultery every day! According to (Genesis 39:7 NIV), Joseph was well-built and handsome, and after a while, his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!” On one such occasion, she caught him by his cloak (robe) and tried to seduce him, but Joseph ran from the temptation leaving his cloak behind! (Genesis 39:13-16)
Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. Sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. (1 Corinthians 6:18 NLT) My son, pay attention to my wisdom; listen carefully to my wise counsel. Then you will show discernment, and your lips will express what you’ve learned. (Proverbs 4:1-2 NLT) For the lips of an immoral woman are as sweet as honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil. But in the end, she is as bitter as poison, as dangerous as a double-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave, for she cares nothing about the path to life. She staggers down a crooked trail and doesn’t realize it. (Proverbs 4:3-6 NLT)
So now, my sons, listen to me. Never stray from what I am about to say: Stay away from her! Don’t go near the door of her house! If you do, you will lose your honor and will lose to merciless people all you have achieved. Strangers will consume your wealth, and someone else will enjoy the fruit of your labor. In the end, you will groan in anguish when disease consumes your body. (Proverbs 4:7-11 NLT) The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience, and God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are faced with temptation, God will show you a way of escape so that you can endure. Run from idol worship and ungodliness. (1 Corinthians 10:13-14 and 1 Timothy 6:11 NLT) The best way to avoid temptation is to stay away from it, don’t be near its presence! Don’t allow yourself to be trapped; do as Joseph did – RUN!
